This is due to a bug in the sound card driver which only occurred when the sound card was not already running when Presentation started it. Older versions of Presentation would have an issue with this sound card in Shared mode (not Exclusive mode) unless some other program happened to be playing sound, where the sounds would play 10ms early. The latency seems to be better at 192Khz and 96Hkz. Click the "SB" icon in the system tray to get the "Sound Blaster Z-Series Control Panel", select the "Speakers/Headphones" tab, select "Stereo Direct" under "Speakers / Headphones Configuration". Even with all effects turned off, if any mode other than Stereo Direct is used, there is at least 10ms of latency. To get low latency, Stereo Direct mode must be used. 44100Hz mode bumps the average latency up to 1ms. 96Khz mode bumps the average latency up to 0.2ms min, 0.4ms max. The chosen sound mode frequency affects the latency. Run Sound Blaster Audigy 5/Rx Control Panel application, select the Stereo Direct / Bit Accurate tab, and make sure the checkbox is checked. To get these results, the sound card must be in "Stereo Direct / Bit Accurate Playback" mode. The sound card performs identically in 16, 24 and 32-bit modes.
For a USB sound card, this performs fairly well. Use Exclusive Mode if you can, but the jitter for Shared Mode here is not bad.
